IMMEDIATE NEWS RELEASE Lake Davenport Sailing Club will officiate their 47th Polar Bear Regatta Sailboat Race September 29 th and 30th. The Races will be in the Lock and Dam Pool 15 at the Oneida Street Landing. The race times are: Sat. 10:00am, 1:00 and 3:00pm and Sunday: 9:00am & 10:30am. Class boats of C-Scows and MC- Scows will be racing. These boats are made to catch the inland lake winds and breezes. They have very shallow drafts to reduce drag and can actually get up out of the water and plane, which enables them to go very FAAAST! The C- Scows are 20' long and will carry 2 or 3 crew depending on the winds, and the MC- Scows are 16' long and carry 1 or 2 crew. Top notch sailors from around the Midwest attend this enviable regatta on the Mississippi River with its currents barges and tows, other boats, logs and debris; all of which add to the mystic of sailing on the Mississippi River. Trophies will be handed out after the last race on Sunday. They will go to the top 3 placing sailors in each class and their crew(s). There will also be trophies for the older salts, one going to the best overall in points of each class again, C and MC. The Masters Trophy will go to a sailor 50 and over, and the Grand Masters Trophy will be handed to the best Sailor 60 and over. For those wishing to view the races from great advantage points come to LDSC grounds, take advantage of the wonderful meals with a view at the BoatHouse Restaurant or watch from the heights of Prospect Terrace Park.
